Hyderabad: The Telangana government which has initiated various measures to modernise the police force in the State on the lines of New York Police Department has cleared the proposals to bring various wings under one roof.

The government gave contract to L&T to build a world-class multi-storied Police Commissionerate building on eight-acre land in Road No. 12, Banjara Hills. The top construction company submitted the building design to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who approved it and asked L&T to go ahead with the project which is expected to cost around Rs 200 crore. The first three floors would have police command control rooms and emergency system with CCTVs. Both Hyderabad and Cyberabad commissionerates will be shifting to the proposed area and would work in coordination. Though originally there was a proposal to merge both the commissionerates, the government seems to have dropped the proposal. When asked, Cyberabad Commissioner of Police CV Anand said, “Cyberabad Commissionerate would remain as a separate commissionerate and right now there are no plans to merge it with Hyderabad commissionerate.”

The proposed police building will have the departments and wings of city police including Special Police, Central Crime Station (CCS), Task Force, Intelligence, Special Investigation Team (SIT), Special Operations Team (SOT), Traffic, etc. City Police Commissioners, Additional Commissioners and Joint Police Commissioners will work in the state-of-the-art building.

The 60 plus law and order police stations under Hyderabad Commissionerate will get new sophisticated buildings in the first phase.
