Mahabubnagar: It appears that snakes are taking revenge on the poverty-stricken people of Mahabubnagar. As many as 130 persons have died of snake bites during the last few months in this district.

The people, most of them steeped in poverty, are still approaching the charlatans for treatment of snake bites. Invariably most of the victims of snake bite have died. The people are in some cases are forced to seek treatment from quacks because of dearth of facilities for treatment by qualified doctors.

The snakes in the rural areas of the district are striking the people increasingly. As many as 130 persons have fallen victim to snake bites. Recently, four members in a family have been stricken snake bites. A farmer Bhaskar, his son Rakesh, daughter Tejeswani and sister Lakshmamam fell victim to snake bites. While Rakesh, Tejeswwani and Lakshmamma died, Bhaskhar is still in hospital.

In another incident at two children Kavita and Sivulu died of snake bite on September 14 at Sanganonipally village under Vipanagandla mandal. Instead of going to hospital, the family members of these two children approached quacks. A newly-married couple too had fallen victim to snake bite. Most of the snake bit victims are dying as they are approaching quacks because of lack of awareness among the people in rural areas.
