Kaloji Health University starts functioning

Warangal: The newly-established Kaloji Health University started functioning with Principal Secretary (Health, Medical and Family Welfare) Suresh Chanda assuming charge as Vice-Chancellor here on Saturday.

He took charge in the presence of Deputy CM and Health Minister Dr. Thatikonda Rajaiah at Kakatiya Medical College, where an office of the university was inaugurated.

The VC said he would strive to develop the university as a model and sought cooperation of all stake-holders. Efforts would be made to provide the required infrastructure.

Dr. Rajaiah said “it is indeed a very happy moment for all the Telangana people, particularly those in Warangal, as our long-pending dream of having a Health University here is fulfilled today. It would emerge as an institute of international standing.”

“Naming the institute after great poet and Telangana protagonist Kaloji is admirable. From now onwards all the five government and more than dozen private colleges come under purview of the university,” he added.

The MBBS and PG students who would be graduating this year could get their certificates from Kaloji Health University and not from Vijayawada based NTR Health University. A budget of Rs 50 crore was earmarked for the university towards infrastructure. There were chances to enhance the budget during a department review meeting scheduled to be held in a week.

Rajaiah pointed out that if required the Warangal central prison situated by the side of the college could be shifted to Mamnoor to make use of the prison land for the university and expansion of KMC.

As of now, the university would be run with the facilities available at KMC.

He directed the KMC administration to complete the pending civil work at the earliest. Measures should be taken to ccommodate additional administrative staff and also to run the classes.
