Warangal: Gangadevipally, a model village in the district, popular across the country, has achieved another milestone.

The village sarpanch Itla Shanthi and Village Development Committee president Kusam Rajamouli were invited for the launch of ‘Sansad Aadarsh Gram Yojana’ (SAGY) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 11.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Rajamouli shared his pleasure and said they feel privileged to participate in launch of the prestigious programme. He thanked government authorities for choosing their village for the purpose.
He acknowledged that the village was able to achieve the status of model village due to continuous support in initiating different development programmes, community capacity building and facilitation by the social service organization Bala Vikasa, based at Kazipet.

So far, representatives from more than 70 countries visited their village to study their development practices. A committee was appointed at the village to provide training to the visitors. The village witnesses at least two visits every week from different NGOs, GPs, colleges and government officials.

With the support of Bala Vikasa, a booklet was published and a video was shot explaining about the achievement of the village. A website www.ganagdevipally.org was also launched. Andhra Pradesh Academy of Rural Development (APARD) also produced a video documentary and built a training centre in the village.

Two other model villages one ewach from Gujarat and Maharashtra would also to be present at the national event. A short film on the selected villages will be viewed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi before he unveils the blue print for the proposed SAGY, Raja Mouli informed.

Speaking on the occasion, Bala Vikasa Executive Director S Shoury Reddy said, “‘It is encouraging to see central government recognizing the success of Gangadevipally village and use the model village to inspire other villages in the country.”
