Karimnagar: Telangana TDP leaders on Sunday vowed to continue their agitation until the State government provided compensation to farmers who suffered crop loss due to power shortage and lack of irrigation facilities. They demanded ex-gratia to the ryots who had committed suicide.

Speaking to the media, Revanth Reddy, MLA, flayed the government for stating that the Maoists were posing hurdles to the State in securing power from neighbouring Chhattisgarh. He alleged that the State was blaming the Maoists as the contract for laying power lines to bring power from Chhattisgarh was not allocated to a relative of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Reddy claimed that an officer who told the government that the contract could not be provided to KCR’s relative was transferred within two hours.

He advised Minister Etela Rajender and TRS MP Kadiam Srihari not to criticize TDP leaders. Instead, they should confront KCR to solve power problems. Errabelli Dayakar Rao, MLA, said several farmers were regretting for backing TRS in the last Assembly polls, in the backdrop of over 200 ryots committing suicide in the region. He termed them as murders by the government.

Rao pointed out that Minister T Harish Rao had promised farmers to provide higher prices for maize and cotton crops at market yards prior to the polls. But no TRS leader was raising the issue now.

He said KCR had earlier stated that he would secure power from Chhattisgarh within three months. But was now stating that the State would face power problems for three years.

Rao criticised KCR for keeping quiet for three months and now approaching the Centre for help.

He observed Telangana would not have faced power problem had the CM sought Central assistance earlier.
