Offers Rs.18 cr worth electric poles, transformers, wires to restore power supply in AP

K Chandrasekhar RaoHyderabad: As a gesture of goodwill the Telangana state government on Tuesday extended a helping hand to the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh which has been battered by Hudhud cyclone.

Following instructions from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the Telangana State Energy department has made all arrangements to send power equipment worth Rs 18 crore to help Andhra Pradesh in restoring power supply in the three affected districts of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, and Vizianagaram. The Energy department said that they were sending 28,500 electric polls, 530 transformers and 900 km length of electric wire so that repair and restoration works could be speeded up and power transmission network restored.

Preliminary estimations said that over 45,000 poles were uprooted and hundreds of transformers were damaged in Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts alone leading to power blackout which had crippled normal life in the last 48 hours.

The officials said the Telangana State government was also ready to offer any kind of assistance, including the deployment of the employees of the energydepartment, to restore power supply on a war footing.
