Speaking on the occasion, Rao termed Redya Naik’s decision as apolitical. He said he wanted to participate in the exercise to rebuild Telangana and hence he joined hands with the government in this mission. Rao urged Redya Naik, a senior politician, to work in co-ordination with TRS leaders in the constituency, including his opponent in the last election and former MLA Satyavathi Rathod.

Reiterating his promise that the TRS government would transform lives of STs in the newly formed state, Rao said it would also provide 12 per cent reservation, and convert thandas (ST habitations) into panchayats. The government would also give Rs 51,000 assistance to ST families for performing marriage of their daughters.

Redya Naik served in YSR’s cabinet as minister for one term. He is known for keeping a low profile. He was the only Congress leader to have won from Dornakal, braving the TRS onslaught. The Congress had lost in all other 12 Assembly constituencies in the Warangal district.
