Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Employees Union (GHMEU), affiliated to TRS Karmikha Vibhagam, has sounded poll bugle for union elections in premier civic body in twin cities. President of the union, Udari Gopal, stated that he was ready to stamp authority for the second successive time in civic body elections.

It may be mentioned here that GHMEU posted a commanding victory in union elections held in September 2012. TRS made its presence in a territory that was once considered its Achilles Heel. According to Gopal, GHMEU’s win acted like a catalyst since TRS-backed unions emerged victorious in union elections held in RTC and Metropolitan Board in the following months.

TRS is on the way of becoming a reckoning force in the state capital with rank and file of various parties in state capital making a beeline to join pink party. We have done great job especially in terms of welfare of civic staff like health cards, house sites and are very confident of winning the second term, Gopal said.

The two-year term of the recognised union came to an end last month. Although union elections are due, it may be delayed due to GHMC elections clashing with it. The term of the present general body is set to end this month. With government deciding to go for delimitation of divisions, both general body and union elections are likely to be held early next year.
