Post-Maha victory, jubilant MIM plans expansion in UP, Karnataka and West Bengal

MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi arriving at the Press Club in Hyderabad on Tuesday Hyderabad: Buoyed by the electoral success in Maharashtra Assembly polls, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is seeking to expand its operations to other States.

Party president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday told the media that they had been working hard in Maharashtra and Karnataka for the past three years. “God willing, these results will be replicated in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and in West Bengal. We want to go and work over there. What is wrong in that?” Owaisi asked.

He said he had been telling the minority community to involve themselves in parliamentary democracy. “So far, you have only been going out and voting for all these political parties. Now, you become a candidate. You become the master of your destiny,” he said.

Asked how the AIMIM planned to expand in other States, Owaisi said. “I am a street leader and I am happy with that. With my party's participation (in other States), more confidence will be created among Muslim youth in parliamentary democracy,” he felt.

“I just want to tell the Muslim youth, who are worried about communalism, about the growth of BJP, not getting their right, to come to the political process and support our party. I am not saying I would support only Muslims,” he clarified.

“Dalit and backward classes brethren are there with us. We would like to work by taking along everyone. Parties have lost their credibility. At the end of the day, it is for people to decide,” Owaisi concluded.
