Cantonment road blockade

The United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations of Malkajgiri is miffed with the Army planning to block roads for civilians in Secunderabad Cantonment area from January 1. “We have tried our best in making GHMC contact the Army for requesting alternate routes through AOC for civil traffic.

But the GHMC authorities have always dodged the matter by saying that the survey was ongoing without giving any information on the outcome,” said BT Srinivasan, executive VP, United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations.

Barricades at AOC roads

“We are seriously concerned about the Army imposing further traffic restrictions. It looks like GHMC is not bothered about the Malkajgiri citizen’s traffic woes due to the Army restrictions,” he added. On Monday, AOC Battalion Commander Col. Deven Bharadwaj sparked off a letter to the Residents Welfare Association. He conveyed that they would go ahead with the blockade since the government departments concerned had failed to develop alternate routes.

The RWAs have decided to step up pressure on the TS government to intervene and stop Army blockades till alternate routes are developed. “It will certainly inconvenience 4 lakh road users on AOC roads,” added BT Srinivasan.
