Khammam: CPI (ML) New Democracy activists staged a novel protest here on Monday decrying the State government for ignoring the welfare of farmers, the aged, widows and physically-challenged.

The activists took out a rally from the Pavilion Ground to the Collector’s office.

During the rally, they enacted scenes which depicted two farmers committing suicide unable to bear debt burden and a farmer lying dead on a transformer. They also enacted a scene where family members were wailing over the bodies of the aged persons who died following depression over being denied pensions. Speaking on the occasion, the CPI (ML) New Democracy leaders said 680 farmers had committed suicide after the TRS formed the government. They alleged that though the TRS government was announcing various welfare schemes, they were not being properly implemented.
The aged were dying in depression after finding that their names were deleted from the list of pensioners.

They pointed out that farmers in Khammam district were facing a crisis as drought-conditions prevailed in the district.

They demanded that the government should waive loans of the farmers and provide them fresh loans. The CPI (ML) New Democracy leaders demanded that Khammam-district should be declared as a drought-hit.
