The State Cabinet decides to amend rules to enable MLAs to take up nominated posts

Hyderabad: Amending the existing law to enable MLAs take up nominated posts and filling Telangana Planning Board with experts from different fields were amongst a few decisions taken by Telangana Cabinet on Tuesday. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao chaired the two-hour meeting held at Secretariat soon after the swearing-in of six new Ministers at Raj Bhavan.

After commencement of the meeting, Rao emphasised on priorities and objectives of the government. He called upon his Cabinet colleagues to discharge their duties keeping in mind aspirations and needs of the people in ten districts of the State. All Ministers should work with coordination and honesty giving no room for graft, he stressed. Rao spoke briefly about Telangana Water Grid, Mission Kakatiya, development of roads and Haritha Haaram besides power and other issues. Telangana should become a role model for the entire nation in terms of education, health, welfare and infrastructure sectors, he said.

In response, new entrants into the cabinet- Tummala Nageshwara Rao, A Indrakaran Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Jupally Krishna Rao, C Laxma Reddy and A Chandulal assured the Chief Minister of full support from their end. They promised to make full use of the given opportunity to derive praises from everyone.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet meeting took a few decisions including making amendments into PD Act, whose unilateral implementation drew flak from all quarters in the undivided State. Cabinet gave its nod for appointment of employees to State Election Commission. The meeting felt the need to fill the Planning Board with experts from different fields to ensure the State progressed in the path of golden Telangana.

The meeting also decided to change existing laws to make line clear for MLAs to adorn nominated posts. In the past, legislators were not preferred for nominated posts because it clashed with ‘office of profit’ rule. This decision was taken in view of the TRS government deciding to appoint a few MLAs for nominated posts so as to appease them for missing out on Cabinet berths.
