The 11-day Mukkoti festival began on a grand note at Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy Temple here on Monday. The presiding deity gave darshan to devotees in “Matsya Avataram” on the first day of the festival. Earlier in the morning, Abhishekam was performed to the Lord. Punyavachanam and Viswaksena Puja were also conducted.

The festival idols of the Lord were taken in a procession from the temple to Midhila Stadium. Devotees and women performed kolattam on the occasion. A large number of devotees had darshan of the Lord. The temple priests provided them theertham and prasadam. Lord Vishnu in Matsya Avatara killed demon Somakasura and protected the Vedas.
