Efforts were being made to bring the Chenchu tribe into mainstream by providing them education, housing, nutritious food and medical assistance, he said.

He laid foundation stone for a safe drinking water scheme costing Rs 12 lakh at a Chenchu colony in Regonda mandal on Tuesday. The Speaker inaugurated a mega medical camp organised for the Chenchu tribals in the colony. About 50 doctors from various medical institutions of Warangal and Hyderabad conducted screening and distributed free medicines. Over 1,000 tribals from 15 villages attend the camp.

Chary said he would also distribute new clothes to the colony residents on January 1. “It is sad to note that Chenchus are still leading a wandering life far away from the mainstream.’’ The fruits of development should reach tribals.That was why various programmes for their uplift were being organised.

He appealed to the people to support such activities. Following the initiative of the Bhagavan Mahavir Charitable Trust, Hyderabad, free meals are being provided to Chenchus in the district for five days in a month. Regional Health Director Nageshwar Rao, DMHO Sriram were present.
