A senior Maoist member Bandi Ramesh alias Saleem surrendered to the police in the presence of rural Superintendent of Police (SP), Ambar Kishor Jha here on Tuesday. He was the member of the Kothaguda-Gundala area committee under the limits of Khammam-Karimnagar-Warangal divisional committee and carried a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh on his head. He is a native of Vippalagada village in Narmetta mandal in Warangal district.

He was the member of the Kothaguda-Gundala area committee under the limits of Khammam-Karimnagar-Warangal divisional committee and carried a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh on his head. He is a native of Vippalagada village in Narmetta mandal in Warangal district.

Ramesh, who gave up education in fifth standard, went underground in 2003 when he was 14 years of age. He had joined as member in Jangaon area committee. He had also worked in area committees of Peddapally and Kothaguda-Gundala. He was involved in exchange of fire between police and Maoists at Puvarthi forest area in Sukuma district of Chhattisgarh state in 2013.

He also took part in killing of Kallem Venkat Reddy in Palvoncha of Khammam district and Agaboina Anasuya in Gundala mandal by suspecting them as informers. Speaking to press persons, Ramesh said the public patronage to the Maoist party had been dwindling in the recent past and internal strife was affecting the spirit of the members. “This has made me to give up arms and join mainstream of society,” he added.

Rural SP said that the surrender policy of Telangana government is the best and majority of Maoists from other states were approaching the police here when intend to give up arms. He appealed to the underground cadre to give up arms and join the mainstream. Rural additional SP (crime) John Wesley, urban additional SP M Yadaiah and additional SP (urban traffic) Anil Kumar were present.
