Christmas was celebrated on a grand scale with spiritual fervour across the district on Thursday. Churches were decorated, as thousands of men and women, young and old in their best attire, thronged them to offer special prayers.

Warangal: Christmas was celebrated on a grand scale with spiritual fervour across the district on Thursday. Churches were decorated, as thousands of men and women, young and old in their best attire, thronged them to offer special prayers.

Midnight prayer services were held at some churches since Wednesday; while at some others early morning services were organised. Special cribs depicting the birth of Jesus Christ and the child in a manger were placed at all churches.

Fatima Cathedral, Kazipet, Epiphany Church, Dornakal, and Centenary Baptist Church, Hanamkonda, organised celebrations since Wednesday midnight and on Thursday morning.

Bishop of Warangal Catholic Diocese Rev Udumala Bala conducted Christmas service at Fatima Cathedral. He called upon the community to spread the spirit of Xmas by promoting love and affection.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr. T Rajaiah, Zilla Parishad Chairperson G Padma, former MP S Rajaiah, District Congress president N Rajender Reddy, City Congress president T Vidyasagar, senior party leader Rajarapu Pratap joined the prayers and extended greetings.

Christmas was celebrated at the Central prison, Warangal. During the month prisoners have been offering regular prayers. They cut a cake and celebrated the festival on Thursday.

Deputy Superintendent of jails N. Shivakumar Goud, doctors T. Madhanmohan, Rajesh and Srinivas, jailors K. Srinivas, V. Srinivasa Rao, A. Sambashiva Rao, deputy jailors M. Sridhar, K. Subash, Laxman Babu, Devender, Rajkumar and the staff joined the celebrations. Prisoner Arogya Reddy read from the Bible. Praveen and other prisoners rendered carols.


Bishop of Church of South India (CSI) Rev. Dr. Vadapalli Prasada Rao offered special prayers at Dornakal CSI. Devotees from Telangana and neighbouring States were present.
