Cong MLA seeks clarification on loan waiver scheme
Telangana Congress MLA G Chinna Reddy on Monday demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao give a clarification on the status of crop loan waiver scheme. Speaking to media persons on the Assembly premises here, Chinna Reddy said the TRS government originally promised to waive off crop loans up to Rs 1 lakh of 36, 31, 809 farmers.
Hyderabad: Telangana Congress MLA G Chinna Reddy on Monday demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao give a clarification on the status of crop loan waiver scheme. Speaking to media persons on the Assembly premises here, Chinna Reddy said the TRS government originally promised to waive off crop loans up to Rs 1 lakh of 36, 31, 809 farmers. However, the number of beneficiaries was reduced to 34 lakhs.
He sought to know why 2.31 lakh farmers were left out of the scheme. Stating that the government had so far released only one instalment of the total loan amount, he alleged that the delay in implementation of the scheme forced over 500 farmers to suicide. He asked whether the government was waiting for more suicides to waive off the total loans.
Chinna Reddy also condemned the objection raised by the Reserve Bank of India Governor on the crop loan waiver scheme. He said when the banks could waive off industrial loans, what was wrong in waiving off crop loans. He said the RBI had no right to object to a policy decision of the State government. He demanded both the RBI and the Chief Minister to issue a clarification on the issue.
