Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) officials demolished an automobile godown at Tarbund on Saturday. The demolition was taken up after the city civil court’s order in favour of SCB. The court case has been going on since 2005, the year of the construction of the godown.

The godown, spread over 1,800 square yards, was constructed without permission. At the time of the demolition, there were 600 two-wheelers inside the godown. B Balakrishna, assistant engineer, SCB said, “The godown which is situated in Ratna Cooperative Housing Society in Plot No 5,6,7,8,9,10 &11 in survey no 176/2/3 is an illegal construction and was built without obtaining permission.” The demolition squad consisted of 50 personnel.

Two JCBs and two bulldozers were used to pull down the structure on Saturday. A major portion of the godown was demolished and the remaining part would be razed to the ground on Sunday, informed SCB officials. The SCB CEO Sujatha Gupta also was present at the site. The owner of the godown Ramesh Chander requested Gupta not to carry out the demolition, but his request was turned down.
