Vikarabad (Ranga Reddy): Minister K Taraka Ramarao on Saturday described the proposed water grid project as a bold step that none took so far in the country. Addressing a district-level review meeting on the water grid here, KTR said the project would ensure 100 litres water to every villager, 135 litres in each municipality and 150 litres in municipal corporations.

The minister stated water committees with trained women members would be constituted for every village. Each committee would visit every house and collect levies for the maintenance of the project. The RWS district water grid project would cost Rs 3,500 crore. Rao said the project would require four MW of power.

Land required for water tanks would be acquired at Mutcharla, Antaram, Raghuvaraopur and Bommarasipet and water would be supplied to villages from these tanks. The survey would be done by February-end and the project would be completed in three-and-a-half years.

The minister pulled up the superintending engineer for the delay in taking up the survey. He said the work on the project should be launched in March. Rao also vented his ire on RWS, Panchayat Raj, Electricity, DWMA, R&B, IKP officials for providing inadequate information.
