Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) is finding it tough to ascertain who got a raw deal in sharing of party posts. Leaders belonging to the Scheduled Castes alleged that the party high command favoured the Reddy community.

Leaders from the SC and Reddy communities are vying with each other to clinch the post of TPCC chief in place of the present incumbent P Lakshmaiah.

With All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and State party in-charge giving ample indications that the TPCC would be revamped soon at the three-day party’s brainstorming session held here last month, leaders belonging to the SC and Reddy communities threw their hat in the ring.

A senior Dalit leader told The Hans India that the SC leaders, at a meeting held at the residence of MP and former PCC chief N Yellaiah here, decided to adopt a resolution urging AICC president Sonia Gandhi to appoint an SC leader as TPCC chief in case Lakshmaiah, who hails from the BC community, is removed from the post. The leaders argued that since the SC population was more than 13 per cent in Telangana, the community deserved the post as SCs were loyal to the Congress since decades.

The SC leaders pointed out that the Reddys already got the CLP chief post (K Jana Reddy) and the party working president post (N Uttam Kumar Reddy). As the SCs got a raw deal in the allocation of posts in the T Congress, the community demanded the party high command to appoint a Dalit leader as the party chief.

Sources said SC leaders J Geeta Reddy, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Damodara Rajanarsimha, Mallu Ravi and N Yellaiah were chosen as the main contenders for the TPCC chief post at the meeting attended by all SC leaders. Senior leader G Vivek, who returned to the Congress after a brief stay in the TRS before 2014 elections, was also in the race for the top post.

From the Reddy community, CLP leader Jana Reddy, deputy leaders T Jeevan Reddy, DK Aruna, K Venkat Reddy and AICC secretary G Chinna Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy emerged as front runners for the party president post. Interestingly, all the leaders hailing from south Telangana were lobbying for the post. Most leaders were in favour of Jana Reddy. They suggested that Jana Reddy should quit the CLP post and take over TPCC. The leaders said SCs could be given the CLP leader post if the Reddys were allotted the post of party chief.
