Hyderabad: Mehrunnisa alias Mesa Gose, a 31-year-old mentally challenged woman of West Bengal, who went missing since September of last year while she was travelling from Kolkata to the city along with her family members, was restored to her family amid joyous scenes at her home on Thursday.

According to Chatrinaka police, Kalavathi, in-charge of ‘Bhavani Mahila Mandali,’ an organisation which supports destitute women, approached the police on September 15 of last year with a request for help to restore her to her family. After making inquiries, detective inspector Devender and sub-inspector Ravinder registered a case under section 23 of Mental Health Act and produced her before a court.

The court in turn sent her to Institute of Mental Health Hospital in Erragadda. After spending there for about three months, the recovery team of the hospital checked and found her fit and produced back to court. Following which, the court ordered the police to find her family members. “Following the court’s direction, we formed special teams to trace her relatives.

We called some Bengali-speaking labourers to police station to help translate the language of the lady and during conversation we searched the said district in Google and traced the police station in a district in West Bengal,” the detective inspector said, adding that Sumitra Gose, her husband, who was called to the city, thanked Telangana Police for their service.
