New Delhi: Telangana State Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is sojourning at the famed Ashoka Hotel’s Presidential suite by paying Rs 1,50,000 plus taxes for a night. He is in the national capital on a 6-day trip to attend the first meeting of the National Institute for Transforming India (Niti) Aayog convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

  • Still retains quarters allocated when he was Union Minister

He is also meeting Union Ministers on issues concerning projects and financial assistance. By the end of his stay, the Telangana State will have to pay not less than Rs 9 lakh plus 21% taxes for six days, besides footing the bill for food in the hotel. The presidential suite at Ashoka Hotel is spread over 3,000 square feet and has enticing view of Delhi’s skyline from its seventh floor.

Confirming KCR’s stay at the hotel, a representative of Ashoka Hotel said, “It is the best suite in the hotel. It is usually taken by celebrities and visiting heads of state.” He said it is not a common man’s cup of tea, certainly a dream of the middle class and also the upper class.

The suite is palatial with king size bedroom, many rooms and a vast dining area which can accommodate a dozen guests. The Chief Minister has a dedicated accommodation at Sabari Block of the Telangana Bhavan, which was once part of the united Andhra Pradesh Bhavan.

A source in the Bhavan said, “KCR had come to the Bhavan only once since he became the Chief Minister and he never stays here.” “It is too small for a Chief Minister,” he said, adding, however, that the Governor stays in the same block, though “it is under repair.” KCR usually stays at 23 Tuglaq Road bungalow which was allocated to him when he was the Union Cabinet Minister. He still retains it but that is also undergoing renovation.
