TS govt stakes 54 % power from Krishnapatnam plant, The Telangana State government has once again staked its claim in power generation from Krishnapatnam project.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has once again staked its claim in power generation from Krishnapatnam project. In a letter to the TS Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC), the govt stated that they are entitled to avail the power allocated to the TS from the two projects as per the AP Reorganisation act.

The two power utilities- TSSPDCL and TSNPDCL, which submitted ARRs (Annual Revenue Receipts (ARRs), including power tariff hike proposals to the Commission on Saturday, said that as per the act, the T State would get 53.89 per cent and remaining 46.11 per cent of the total generated power would be given to AP.

Since the Reorganisation Act earmarked Telangana share in two power projects, the AP government has no authority to scrap the PPAs entered by the Telangna Discoms with the APGENCO in the erstwhile united AP.

TSSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director G Raghuma Reddy said that the act says Telangana would get around 1200 MW of power from the two projects established with a total installed capacity of 1,800 MW.

The two governments locked horns over the continuation of PPAs after the AP scrapped the agreements immediately after the division of state. Telangana complained to Centre against AP prompting the appointment of Neeraja Mathur Committee to look into the contentious issue. The officials said the electricity consumers who consume below 100 units category have been exempted from additional tariff burden. The total burden on consumers would be around Rs 1089 crore if the Commission accepts the new tariff hike proposals. The two Discoms projected ARR for 2015-16 at Rs 26,700 crore as against the Rs 18,900 crore revenue from the existing tariff structure.

The revenue deficit would be around 6,721 crore. The revenue support from the government for supplying free power to agriculture and subsidised power to domestic and industrial sector is pegged at Rs 4640 crore.
