Hyderabad: Deputy leader in Telangana Legislative Assembly T Jeevan Reddy accused the State government of giving major project works to a tainted contractor.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, Reddy said development works in north Telangana worth about Rs 2,000 crore had been assigned to a contractor who was facing allegations of misappropriation of crores of rupees in Rajiv Rahadari project.

He demanded that the government place the report of the sub-committee that was constituted under the chairmanship of Bhanu Prasad on the table of the House.

Reddy said even the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), in its annual report, pointed out several irregularities.

He demanded that the government take up an express way from Rythu Bazaar in Alwal to Jubilee Bus Stand in Secunderabad. He said hundreds of commuters had been facing difficulties in travelling on this stretch of road due to heavy traffic.

Meanwhile, Congress senior leader and MLA DK Aruna urged the State government to withdraw the proposed hike in power tariff. Aruna said the proposed hike would put an additional burden of over Rs 1,000 crore on the common people.

Therefore, she demanded that the State government withdraw the proposal and adjust the deficit to Discoms by giving subsidy. She said that the Congress would launch a massive agitation if the government increases the power tariff.
