Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu urged the Governors to actively participate in promoting awareness about cleanliness as part of the Swachh Bharat campaign launched by the Modi government.

New Delhi: Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu urged the Governors to actively participate in promoting awareness about cleanliness as part of the Swachh Bharat campaign launched by the Modi government.

He briefed the Governors of states and Administrators of Union Territories on the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ at Rashtrapati Bhawan who were attending two-day conference hosted by the President Pranab Mukherjee.


Venkaiah Naidu has made a presentation on the objectives of the Mission, physical targets and strategy for ensuring cleanliness in all urban areas of the country by the year 2019. President Pranab Mukherjee was also present during the presentation. Venkaiah Naidu stressed that a behavioral change is needed among the people such as to avoid open defecation for achieving cleanliness and called upon urged the Governors and Administrators to take lead in ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign.
