Pictorial warning on beedi packs opposed

Nizamabad: Beedi workers under the banner of Telangana Beedi Kamgar Union staged a dharna at the MRO office here on Friday demanding that the Central government should withdraw its decision of carrying pictorial health warning on beedi packets.

The Centre had earlier issued orders that every beedi packet should carry the statutory warning of lung cancer with pictorial depiction beginning from April 1, 2015.

Addressing the beedi workers, union leader Bal Narasaiah said that the Centre’s decision would have adverse impact on beedi workers. He also demanded that the state government should resolve pending problems of the beedi workers immediately.
