Adilabad: The strike by the contract workers of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) entered the second day on Friday. They gave strike call demanding that the SCCL management should pay wages as decided by the high powered committee. They also demanded regularisation of services.

The contract workers stated that the SCCL management was supposed to pay wages as per the decision taken by the high powered committee with effect from January 1, 2013. They burnt the effigies of the SCCL management at Bellampalli, Mandamarri and Srirampur. In Ramakrishnapur, the contract workers along with their families organised a rally from Rajiv Chowk to the open cast project and burnt an effigy of the SCCL management.

Government Whip N Odelu was passing by when the contract workers were burning the effigy. They stopped Odelu’s convoy and requested him to apprise their problems to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. Labour union leader Rajesham said that the contract workers were leading miserable lives for the past few months with meagre wages. Rajesham made an appeal to the SCCL management to take initiative for resolving their pending demands.
