Khammam: Farmers of Kotha Kothur village staged a demonstration on the Khammam-Kodad road near Nandigama Branch Canal Cross, two kilometres away from Nelakondapalli mandal headquarters in Khammam district, demanding release of water to save their crops from drying. The farmers, who squatted on the road, said that despite their pleas to release water from Palair Balancing Reservoir to Nandigama Branch Canal, the Nagarjunasagar Project (NSP) authorities were indifferent. As a result, the rabi crop paddy was on the verge of drying, they said.

“If the water is not released immediately, all our hopes of rabi will be dented,” the farmers lamented. Traffic came to a grinding halt for about half-an-hour. However, the police, who swang into action, restored the traffic by pacifying the farmers.
