The Telangana government has appointed retired IPS officer KR Nandan as the first Vigilance Commissioner of the newly-formed State. Nandan, a 1975 batch officer, retired while being in DGP rank in 2012. He was holding the post of Chairman of Police Housing Corporation at the time of superannuation.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has appointed retired IPS officer KR Nandan as the first Vigilance Commissioner of the newly-formed State. Nandan, a 1975 batch officer, retired while being in DGP rank in 2012. He was holding the post of Chairman of Police Housing Corporation at the time of superannuation.

A Government Order (GO-794) was issued in this regard on Thursday. Also, another GO-123 to set up Telangana Vigilance Commission was also issued. Nandan’s appointment is for three years. Nandan, hailing from Kallur town of Khammam district, is the son-in-law of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao.

He served as DGP (Admin), DG of Special Protection Force and Anti-Corruption Bureau besides SP of Karimnagar and Warangal districts among others. He was regarded as an honest and upright officer in police circles. Vigilance Department has become very crucial in Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s scheme of things in view of his government’s zero tolerance attitude against corruption.
