Hyderabad: Assuring the Muslim minorities in Telangana State that he would take all measures for their welfare, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday announced sops --- almost addressing the demands made by MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi.

  • okays most of demands raised by MIM member Akbaruddin
  • Plan to fill 2,500 Urdu teacher posts
  • Auditorium to be built in Nizamia varsity
  • Steps to be initiated to protect Wakf lands

During a debate on budget, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi sought clarification on Wakf land encroachments, protection, scholarships, issues of minorities’ welfare and shifting of Chest Hospital to Old city rather than to Vikarabad. Akbaruddin extended thanks to the Chief Minister for giving a nod for almost every demand he sought.

Giving a reply to Owaisi, KCR announced that the government has no problem to offer pre-matric scholarships, training, filling of 2,500 Urdu teacher posts, introduction of Urdu as second language and others. However, KCR was cautious and did not spell out his mind on the Owaisi submission on Chest Hospital. He also said his government will construct an auditorium at Nizamia varsity in old city.

“This varsity is 140 years old and former CM Burgula Ramakrishna Rao and many other political stalwarts studied from this institution which must be developed”, he stated. The Chief Minister expressed concern that 10,000 acres of Wakf land was encroached around twin cities. The successive governments had failed to address the issue, he alleged. Steps will be taken to divert funds to be raised towards land value and compensation from big companies and businessmen, who constructed their buildings in the Wakf lands in and around the city like Lanco Hills and others.

The government will offer pre-Matric scholarships, training classes for professional courses and help the youth get suitable jobs. The government will take every step towards the welfare of the poor Muslims with scholarships, funds to education, institutions and other welfare measures he said. He also said that Haj centres will be developed as per international standards. The government will protect the Wakf assets and ensure speedy steps to ensure that the Muslim minorities enjoy fruits of development.

Telangana government promotes secularism and culture which reflects the persisting unity among the Hindus and Muslims. The Hindus in villages used to visit the mosques that reflects the communal amity and brotherhood that is synonymous to that of pious rivers like Ganga and Yamuna in the country, he added.
