Turkish Consulate starts operations with a goof up. The Turkish Government set-up a mission in Hyderabad as part of its effort to promote and further strengthen business, social and cultural ties with India and also to boost trade and commerce between the two countries.

Hyderabad: The Turkish Government set-up a mission in Hyderabad as part of its effort to promote and further strengthen business, social and cultural ties with India and also to boost trade and commerce between the two countries.

Giving details of the new mission, Murat Omeroglu, Turkish Consul General in Hyderabad said: “To serve the people of Hyderabad and other states, we are starting our operations immediately without waiting for the official inauguration which will happen at a later date.”

The Turkish Consulate’s jurisdiction will cover Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Orissa. To further assist Indians with their visits to Turkey, the Consulate will also accept and process visa applications from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Turkey currently has an Embassy in New Delhi and another Consulate General in Mumbai. The office in Hyderabad will be the second Consulate General of Turkey in India. Hyderabad has a deep connect with Turkey.

The eldest son of the last Nizam, Prince Azam Haj married Princess Durru Shehvar in 1931. Princess Durru Shehvar’s first cousin Princess Niloufer was among the last Imperial Princess of the Ottoman Empire who married Azam’s younger brother Moazzam Jah. The Consulate is located on Road No 34, Jubilee Hills.

Turkey or Ireland!

The Turkish Consulate General tried to score a point by having its logo in four languages. However, wrong translation of Telugu, had put the officials in an embarrassing situation during the launch on Sunday. The Turkish Consulate had prepared its logo in English, Hindi, Telugu and Urdu. But, the officials did not notice that instead of "Turkey", the Telugu translation read as "Ireland". The officials were shocked when the media persons pointed out the mistake at the time of launch. Soon, the Consulate officials promised that they would immediately carry out the correction and come out with a right logo.
