Finds hospital chief and RMO absent; directs staff to keep the premises clean

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao who made surprise visit to the Fever hospital at Nallakunta on Saturday was in for surprise when he found the Superintendent and Resident Medical Officer (RMO) were not present in the hospital. KCR, who was returning from Amberpet after garlanding the statue of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule on the occasion of Phule’s 189th birth anniversary, suddenly drove to the Fever hospital and inspected a few wards.

The hospital officials were in a quandary when the Chief Minister enquired about the Superintendent and the RMO. When he was informed that they were on leave, the Chief Minister wondered how all top level officials could go on leave at the same time. One has to be present during holidays, KCR told the officials. He expressed his unhappiness over the lack of amenities for the patients, and the absence of duty doctors and administrative staff.

KCR also spoke to the patients about the treatment being provided to them at the hospital. The Chief Minister also sought to know why the officials could not maintain cleanliness in and around the hospital premises. Upon spotting a heap of garbage behind the hospital, KCR asked the officials to immediately press staff to clean the same. The Chief Minister directed the staff to provide better services to the patients.

Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy and District Collector Nirmala were also present. Taking serious note of the removal of a ward established exclusively for swine flu patients, KCR instructed the authorities to resume the facility immediately. He was informed that since the number of flu cases reported in the last one week had declined, the special ward has been detached. Taking the opportunity, the paramedical staff working on contract basis brought their grievances to the notice of the Chief Minister. They submitted a memorandum urging KCR to regularise their services.
