Mahabubnagar: The Telugu Desam leaders in Mahabubnagar district have commenced efforts to bring back the party’s past glory, when it won nine Assembly seats in the 2009 elections. However, after the formation of Telangana, the party could get only two seats in the 2014 polls. Leaders like Errabelli Dayakar Rao, L Ramana, Revanth Reddy and Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy are making efforts keeping in view the public meeting here on April 23 to be attended by TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

  • Efforts on to make Naidu’s April 23 meet a grand success
  • Projecting party’s bright chances in 2019 polls

They seek to project TDP as the strong opponent to TRS in the 2019 elections. They had already conducted constituency-level meetings to enthuse the party activists. The public meeting here will be Naidu’s first to be attended in the capacity of AP Chief Minister after the bifurcation of the State. Hence, the district TDP leaders are making Herculean efforts to make it a grand success and in the process create confidence among the party cadre that the party will be able to challenge the TRS in 2019.

The leaders are trying to encash the discontent among the TRS leadership following the recent constitution of the party mandal and district committees. Dayakar Rao recently made a significant observation at a district party meeting that the TRS, within 11 months of coming to power in Telangana, has been witnessing internal group feuds and that if they continue, the party would be ousted in the next two years.

The district TDP leaders have, of late, been focussing attention on the ‘failures’ of the KCR government and asserting that the TDP would be back at the helm. They are said to hoping to capitalise on the likely public disgruntlement towards the TRS government by 2019. Interestingly, the district TRS party leadership is keenly watching the April 23 meeting. It is said to be discussing the steps needed to be taken, keeping the party interests in mind, if the meeting is successful.
