Hyderabad: In order to enhance the pass percentage in the government junior colleges; the Commissionerate of Intermediate Education is mulling to install CCTVs, biometric systems to keep an eye on working of faculty in junior colleges in the state. Initiating, it as the pilot project, the Commissionerate wants to install the surveillance system in few colleges which fared poorly in Intermediate 2015 results and subsequently the surveillance system will be extended to all 402 government colleges in the State.

The surveillance is aimed to usher in accountability and responsibility among the lecturers in the colleges. The officials of intermediate education say that biometric system would check-mate fake students and also comes in handy for giving scholarships only to genuine students.

Upon successful implementation in the Social welfare residential schools and colleges, the Commissionerate officials want to replicate the same in the government colleges. By next academic year, the officials are contemplating to implement it at least in a few colleges. However, a senior official in Commissionerate, said that project is awaiting government’s nod.

However, Telangana government junior lecturers said that the project will be effective only if students strength is enhanced in government colleges. “Government should try to enrol more students to junior colleges since the student’s strength is low, in comparison to private colleges. The surveillance system will yield results only if students are available in good strength in the colleges” says B Ramshetty, President, Telangana Junior Lecturers.
