Hyderabad: The BJP on Friday staged a massive protest against Telangana government to revoke hike in property tax t, near GHMC head office, in Hyderabad. The protest was organised by BJP's Greater Hyderabad party president B. Venkat Reddy which was attended by five MLAs of the party and scores of activists.

Hundreds of BJP supporters gathered at GHMC head office and raised slogans against the Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Addressing the party workers Venkat Reddy demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to revoke the hike in property tax and also accused the GHMC “forcibly collecting” taxes without improving civic amenities.

He also said that even small traders like pan shopwallahs and sugarcane juice vendors are not spared. Reddy further alleged that GHMC officials under KCR's government are behaving like goons in collecting taxes. "How can the government collect both trade licence tax and commercial tax from the traders. If it wants money, government should collect it from corporate and government officials" he said.

The BJP National General Secretary Muralidhar Rao who was present at the protest demanded immediate revoking hike of property tax and termed it as 'unscientific”. He also warned to storm both Secretariat and CMO. “The same people who were protesting for separate state of Telangana a year ago are now protesting against the government of Telangana, which showcases the governance of KCR", Muralidhar Rao said.
