Parigi (Ranga Reddy): With no members of the ruling party in the executive committee of the agricultural market yard in the town, the commission agents are having a field day and they were found flouting norms and rules according to their whims and fancies. In many cases, it was found that they were fixing prices for the food grains in connivance with the officials of the market yard and purchasing the stock from the farmers at very low rates.

As there was nobody to steer the market committee, the powers have been handed over to the secretaries. Even there was no secretary for the Parigi market yard, and so the secretary of the market yard of the Ibrahimpatnam is serving as the in-charge Secretary. Some of the farmers alleged that the traders were controlling the market yard and making it difficult for the farmers to get the support or remunerative price for their produce in the market.

Farmers bring their produce to Parigi market yard

The farmers said that every Friday, they come to sell their produce and the small time traders and commission agents numbering 40 were minting money worth lakhs of rupees at the expense of the farmers, who cultivate their crops facing several hardships. Though they brought this to the notice to the secretary and other officials of the market yard, they remained indifferent.

The farmers lamented that the officials did not issue any receipts to them after purchasing the food grains from them. If they give the receipts, they would have to pay 1 per cent of the amount from each farmer to the market yard. Without any receipts, they could pocket the amount.

They said that it was unfortunate that the officials, traders and the commission agents of the market yard, who were making profits at the expense of the small time farmers, were not at all taking any interest in their welfare. They urged the government and the officials concerned to intervene and do something in this regard.

They said that there were no toilet facilities for the farmers at the market yard and urged the government to take steps in this regard as the existing ones have become unusable.
