Hyderabad: The Telangana doctors have claimed that majority departments are pressuring the NIMS (Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences) administration to recommend to the government for enhancement of retirement age from 60 years to 65 years.

According to sources, the age of retirement in the government medical colleges is 58 years and as per pay structure allowances, the NIMS teaching faculty are drawing almost on par with All India Institute of Medical Sciences pay scales which are around 30 per cent to 35 percent more than teaching doctors in other medical colleges in the State.

Hence the Telangana doctors say that the request of teaching faculty of NIMS for increase of retirement age should not be considered. Any such move would affect the chances of promotions of working doctors and unemployed doctors who are seeking placements.

He said that the latest Executive Board decisions on the promotion pattern of Medical Council of India (MCI), if implemented, would encourage young doctors in the State and they would also get promotions. For unknown reasons, the senior faculty members were opposing it, he said.

The doctors say that the NIMS administration should allow interested government doctors of medical colleges to work on deputation at NIMS. Such a measure would improve the teaching quality and also patient care services. They allege that the doctors of teaching faculty get promoted without requisite qualifications and despite having corruption charges.

They further claim that in the neurology department, consumables are being procured at higher rates due to which the hospital is put to loss.
