Hyderabad: Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao on Thursday urged the Centre to include Siddipet in Medak district in its list of class one cities (smart cities) across the country. He held talks with Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in Delhi and discussed smart cities development programme by the Centre.

Later, he told reporters that he appealed to Venkaiah Naidu on the need for inclusion of Siddipet into the smart cities’ list. Reacting to his appeal, the Union Minister agreed to consider and take necessary steps, he said. Though, earlier the Telangana government made a similar appeal, it was not included into the list due to some errors, he said.

He exuded confidence that Siddipet would now be included in the list of class one cities with Venkaiah’s assurance. On getting the smart city status, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government would develop Siddipet as a smart city in Telangana, he said.
