President yet to give nod for launch

The commencement of the ambitious Haritha Haaram drive of the Telangana government is less than a week away, but still there is no clarity whether President Pranab Mukherjee will launch the programme or not. The press communiqué issued by his office on Sunday did not mention the President’s participation in the afforestation drive. It only said during his ten-day southern sojourn, Pranab would be visiting Tirumala to offer prayers to Lord Venkateshwara on July 1.

On July 3, the President will receive the first copy of the book ‘Uniki’ written by Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao at a programme to be held at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), Madhapur. The President’s schedule also includes inauguration of ‘Nakshatra Vatika’ at Rashtrapati Nilayam, Bolarum on July 6. It may be mentioned here that the Chief Minister’s Office issued a press note last week stating that Pranab Mukherjee would be invited for the massive drive in which 230 crore saplings and trees would be planted in Telangana over the next three years.
When contacted, the TRS sources said that nothing had been finalised yet. Although a decision was taken to invite Pranab Mukherjee for the launch of the prestigious programme, talks are going on regarding the venue, it is learnt. It is understood that the government is mulling to hold the inauguration programme either in Yadagirigutta or in Warangal district.
