Hyderabad: Telangana State government on Monday issued orders extending the term of the existing Excise Policy 2014-15 for a period of three months i.e. from July one to September 30. All the 2216 licensed liquor shop dealers have been asked to pay license fee for the extended period and sell liquor under the same policy.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao rejected the new excise policy -2015-16, prepared by state Excise and Prohibition department, following complaints that the existing and the new policy failed to curb the unabated ID ( Illicitly Distilled) liquor sale in the villages and the smuggling of NDPL ( Non Duty Paid Liquor) from neighbouring states.

KCR wanted to bring in a strong policy aiming to curb the illegal sale of ID liquor and introduce the sale of cheap liquor from this year.
