INHUMAN TREATMENT OF TEENAGE GIRL

Hyderabad: The PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice SV Bhatt on Monday made clear that it did not approve of governments being insensitive to the cause of women, especially those who are suffering and come to court for assistance. “ Is this the way women are taken care of?”, Chief Justice Bhosale pointedly asked the Telangana state government while treating a letter relating to Miss Pratyusha as a writ plea.

It may be recalled that a 19-year-old girl of LB Nagar was rescued from her father and step-mother after she has been tortured for a long duration of time. A section of the media have carried various details of how she was tortured and also why she was so treated by her father. The bench has taken cognizance of the incident based on a letter from Justice Challa Kodanda Ram.

The judge has written the letter to the Chief Justice based on news reports about the incident requesting the Chief Justice to intervene in the matter as the abuse of girl child has violated the rights guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution. The bench asked Government Pleader Sharath Kumar to step in and assist the court.

The court pointedly wanted responses on who is taking care of the victim and paying her hospital bills, her present physical and psychological state. The bench said that the incident was a serious blot on the family system and it was for the government to respond. The matter is adjourned to Wednesday.
