Hyderabad: The Telangana government may not meet the mandate of the Supreme Court to start the engineering classes from August 1. With the division bench of Hyderabad High Court here on Monday posting the issue of private engineering college admission cases to Wednesday, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) authorities are in a fix over the Eamcet counselling.

According to the apex court ruling, the admissions to engineering colleges should be wrapped up by the end of July and classes should begin from August 1. Even if the court pronounces its verdict on July 15, given the number of days, both the first and the second phase of counselling may not be concluded by end of the July.

A TSCHE official said the council had once again revised the counselling dates for the Eamcet and sent them to the Court. “If court gives its ruling on July 15, counselling has to be done immediately. If the issue is prolonged, we will not be able to meet the deadline set by the Supreme Court,” the official added.

“If the counselling is not completed in time, technical education in the newly-formed State will take a beating. Instead of being hell-bent on their stands, the government and the private engineering colleges should come on a common platform and sort out the issues in the larger interest of the students,” an official of TSCHE said.
