Hyderabad: The two-judge PIL bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice S V Bhatt on Monday ordered notice in a case filed complaining that the GHMC is not paying monies it has to under the law for laying water pipelines etc.,

G R Karunakar, BJP leader moved the High Court in a PIL complaining that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is not laying the pipelines to supply drinking water to residents of many areas. The Board says it has no funds. He said that state government issued GO directing the GHMC to pay the water tax component to the Water Board but the corporation has not paid single rupee.

He also stated in his petition that the residential colonies have paid their share of 30 percent of estimated expenditure for laying pipelines and the GHMC which has to release its 70 percent share has not done so. Because of this the HMWS&SB is not taking up any works and the citizens are not getting the water. The bench directed the Board to file counter affidavit about the alleged paucity of funds and ordered notice to GHMC. The case will be listed after two weeks.
