CASH-FOR-VOTE

The elite laboratory says video footages and audio clips recorded in the mobile phones during the ‘deal’ were not morphed

Hyderabad: The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials confirmed that the crucial evidences seized by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials in the cash-for-vote case were not tampered. The ACB had given about 14 recordings of both audio and video to the FSL which were verified for authenticity to confirm the accuser’s involvement in the case.

The FSL on Thursday said the videos and audio clips recorded in the mobile phones during the ‘deal’ were not morphed and confirmed the voices and footage of the arrested accused through audio and video analysis. There were three video clippings, in which one video recording was of 86 minutes and 21 seconds length, the second of 10 minutes and 38 seconds and the third 43 minutes and nine seconds, which had the presence of prime accused in the case, Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy and his aides.

The three audio tapes, one of 45 minutes and 12 seconds length, another of 44 minutes and 52 seconds length and the third audio tape that contained a conversation of 47 minutes and 18 seconds, had the voices of the accused in the case, sources said. Investigators of the ACB sent the video and audio recordings along with two cell phones and some cameras and two CPUs that were seized from MLA Revanth Reddy’s house to FSL on July 14 to verify the authenticity.

On May 31, the ACB officials arrested Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy and his two aides when they tried to bribe nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson with Rs 50 lakh to cast his vote in favour of a BJP-TDP candidate during Legislative Council elections in Telangana. Later, Sathupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah was also arrested for conspiring to damage the democracy by disturbing the election procedure and bribe the nominated MLA Stephenson, while the investigators are still in search of another accused Jerusalem Mathaiah.

The incident caused a flutter in the political firmament in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana leading to a virtual war between the Chief Ministers of both the Telugu speaking State. It may be recalled that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu even accused Governor ESL Narasimhan of partisanship. His party, the TDP, even went up to the extent of demanding that the Section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act be implemented, under which Law and order in Hyderabad will be under the charge of the Governor.

The audio recording, alleged to be a phone recording of Naidu speaking to Elvis Stephenson, had first aired on a local Telugu channel, which is owned partly by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s family. On basis of the recording, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi had claimed that Naidu had been involved in the bribery scandal.
