Hyderabad: Telangana government has decided to meet irrigation and drinking water needs of five Assembly constituencies-Bhadrachalam, Kothagudam, Pinapaka, Aswaraopet and Sathupalli in Khammam district from Godavari. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directed higher officials to do a detailed study and submit a report.

Rao who held a review meeting on the status of irrigation projects of Khammam district on Thursday, stated that Indirasagar, Rajivsagar and Kinnerasani projects should be made use of effectively to irrigate large area. Although Khammam has the facility to meet irrigation requirements of lakhs of acres of land, previous governments neglected the issue, he said.

KCR said despite spending nearly Rs 1800 crore the Indira Sagar and Rajiv Sagar projects remained incomplete. He said all the pending projects in the district need to be completed in a planned manner to meet future needs. The Chief Minister blamed the previous regimes for ignoring water needs of Khammam district for irrigation and drinking.

Rao told the officials to explore options for supplying water to Khammam, Madhira, Wyra and Yellandu constituencies. Roads and Building Minsiter Tummala Nageswara Rao who also participated in the meeting brought to the notice of CM that 13 lakh acres of land in Khammam could be used for cultivation, leaving out the forest area.
