Director General Vinoy Kumar Singh bats for police reforms

Hyderabad: Telangana Prisons Director General Vinoy Kumar Singh on Thursday made controversial comments about the criminal justice system in the country.

Endorsing the comments made by Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar who felt that there was an urgent need to implement reforms in the police department, the DG said,

“I think he is one of the very few politicians in the country who has understood the pains and the trauma of the poor people who face all kinds of problems at the hands of the police.”

He said that the criminal justice system in the country was not delivering justice to the poor people and was suppressing the poor and making them suffer more.

“When I came to the Prisons Department I thought only 80 percent of the people who come to jails are poor and uneducated. Now I am shocked to know that the whole criminal justice system is grinding the poor people.

At present the police system is not geared up to help the poor people and it requires urgent radical changes,” the DG opined. He said that expecting justice from the current police system would be just a nightmare.

It is unfortunate that though thousands of police officers and men were sacrificing their lives at the altar of the duty, the DG said adding

“The system is in such a pathetic condition that even if God becomes a police officer in the present police system, he also cannot do justice to the poor people.”

“I request the enlightened citizens of India to raise their voice in favour of police reforms. Unless a State Security System modelled on the lines of Election Commission of India is not brought into being,

India has no hope of ensuring Rule of Law and Equality before law,” DG VK Singh said on Thursday.
