Finally Telangana State government on Wednesday constituted a nine-member official committee for declaring mandals as drought affected in the State during south-west monsoon 2015.

Hyderabad: Finally Telangana State government on Wednesday constituted a nine-member official committee for declaring mandals as drought affected in the State during south-west monsoon 2015.

The committee would meet and scrutinise the proposals submitted by district collectors and other institutions for Kharif-2015 which include report of Mahalanobis National Crop Forecasting Centre, Delhi on Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI),

report of Agro Climatic Research Centre of Prof Jaya Shankar, Telangana State Agriculture University on Moisture Adequacy Index ( MAI), report of Director, Economics and Statistics on rainfall, dry spells, crop coverage, and crop yield data based on crop cutting experiments.

The committee would also take into consideration the report of Director of Agriculture on crop coverage and condition and other connected agencies as per the guidelines in the State Handbook for Management of Drought and Manual for Drought Management of Union Ministry of Agriculture.

After scrutiny, the Committee would finalise and give recommendatory report to the government for declaration of drought affected mandals.

The members of the committee include Special Chief Secretary (Finance Department), Principal Secretary (Planning), Secretary to Agriculture and Co-operation Department,

Director of National Remote Sensing Centre or his Representative, Director of Indian Meteorological Department, Hyderabad, Director, Agro Climate Research Centre, Agriculture Research Institute,

Prof Jayashankar State Agriculture University, Chief Executive Officer of Telangana State Development, Planning Society, Director of Economics and Statistics, Commissioner for Disaster Management.
