AICC spokesperson Madhu Yashki raps Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for failure to address the issue of farmer suicides

Hyderabad: All India Congress Committee spokesperson Madhu Yashki on Monday said the intervention by Nizamabad TRS MP K Kavitha on behalf of distressed farmers had raised questions on the capability of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to address the issue.

Speaking to media persons here, he said Kavitha had promised to help the families of 389 farmers, who had committed suicide due to mounting debt burden, by giving relief at the rate of Rs 2,500 to each a month. But the voluntary organisation Telangana Jagruthi had set aside just Rs 1 crore to fulfil the promise. It meant that the families of these farmers would get relief just for one year.

Madhu Yashki described it as “tokenism” and “mockery. Continuing his tirade against the TRS government, the Congress leader said “While the family members of the farmers, who committed suicide, continue to mourn the deaths of breadwinners, the Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the festivities which will benefit none other than his own daughter and her NGO,” he alleged.

Madhu Yashki recalled that the same family members, who held key posts now, were “ambulance chasers” at the peak of Telangana movement. They played politics over the bodies of ‘martyrs.’ KCR owned hundred acre farm land and Kavitha took franchise of international cosmetic company He demanded that Jagruthi, which faced allegations of collecting crores of rupees in the name of martyrs and later Bathukamma make public its financial dealings to the Telangana people.

“Why did Minister for Major Irrigation Harish Rao, who filed cases against the Padmalaya and Annapurna studios, is now accepting funds from them for the organisation,” he asked. The former MP wondered why the government was not able to set up a single power plant during the last 16 months.
