Mahbubnagar: Mahbubnagar district, which is known for large-scale migration of poor people particularly from Palamur to other States in search of employment for decades, seems to have made good progress in putting a brake to this phenomenon thanks to the recent initiatives taken up by the district administration.

The officials headed by Collector T K Sreedevi opened a cell called Advantage Mahbubnagar and also brought out a special booklet to show case the multifaceted potentiality of the district.

Things did not stop here, the proactive role played by the administration has helped in attracting investments worth about Rs 700 crore as over 12 companies in sectors like rotograve printing, non-whipping dairy cream, HDPE and PVC pipes, chocolates, pharmaceutical formulations, modular furniture, water treatment chemical, films, glass bottles and solar power announced their decision to set up units in the backward district.

In addition to this, a company from Chhattisgarh has announced its interest to set up a unit to produce starch from maize at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore. According to Sreedevi, maize so far was being used as feed for poultry. Various other plans are also in the pipeline to create employment opportunities for the local people so that the migration could be contained.

Plans are afoot to develop two-vegetable clusters in 12 villages of Balanagar and Shadnagar mandals, where vegetables could be grown in about 10,000 hectors. The administration is also planning to set up cold storage plants and vegetable processing units, Sreedevi added.

Approximately Rs 900 crore of investments announced thus far makes Mahbubnagar number one compared to other districts and the district administration had come in for appreciation from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, she informed.
