Vigorous drive on drunken driving now extended during day time also. It is a welcome measure from the Telangana police. The basic traffic discipline is slowly but surely improving though still a lot needs to be done to pump some civic sense into nearly 40 lakh commuter population of different shades like two-wheeler, three-wheeler and car drivers not to speak of the behemoth holders in the form of lorries and RTC buses plying in and around twin cities.
A new problem has cropped up with government laying wide and rather swanky looking roads and the traffic police abandoning traffic junctions and rerouting the traffic, making use of U-turns wherever possible, like in Tarnaka junction to cite an example. The crux of the problem is many motorists tend to take the wrong route to avoid U-turn to save a few drops of petrol and perhaps a few minutes but at a great risk for themselves and other law abiding commuters.

The government should come out with a policy decision on speed breakers. A speed breaker is meant to reduce the speed and not break the back bones or facilitate easy deliveries as is joked about among the commuter fraternity. All illegal and unauthorized speed breakers should at once be dispensed with. It is always easy to criticise the government, the police, GHMC, but a lot rests with the cooperation of the public and their display of civic sense is the need of the hour.
